The Safety Geek | Remote | Part-Time Contractor Position

About The Safety Geek

We’re on a mission to dominate the industry and become the category Queen of Safety Management Training by supporting safety professionals at all stages of their career – from the very start to the role of Chief Safety Officer to building their own safety industry business. We offer comprehensive training and support, including regulations, management processes, leadership, business development, and advanced strategy, so safety professionals can create world-class programs worthy of VPP star or ISO certification. Through our online education platform, we’re helping thousands of safety professionals transform their careers and change the culture of workplace safety.

The Role

Shape the student experience that turns safety professionals into strategic leaders – where your deep safety knowledge and coaching expertise create lasting transformation.
This isn’t your typical community manager role where you’re just moderating forums and scheduling posts. You’ll be the heartbeat of our Safety Leadership Academy – the trusted expert our students turn to week after week as they transform from compliance-focused safety managers into strategic, influential leaders. You’ll host new student kickoff calls, weekly office hours, and 90-day accelerator sessions, guiding students through our proven methodology while fostering a thriving community where safety professionals support each other’s growth. You’ll respond to forum questions, track student progress, celebrate milestones, and be part of renewal and upsell conversations – all while embodying our core philosophy that exceptional safety management goes far beyond regulations. Starting as a contracted coaching position with 10-15 hours/week (growing to 25 hours to full-time as we scale) and significant schedule autonomy, this role has clear growth potential. As we scale and bring in specialized coaches for areas like construction, DOT, industrial hygiene, and maritime, you’ll transition into managing that coaching team and potentially convert to a full-time W2 leadership position. If you’re a seasoned safety professional with coaching skills who wants to multiply your impact by guiding hundreds of safety leaders – this could be your perfect fit.

    Ideal Candidate

You’re a seasoned safety professional who’s lived the journey we teach. You’ve spent 10+ years in high-hazard industries, probably started as the “safety cop,” and eventually figured out that influence beats authority every time. You’ve seen how stepping back and collaborating with operations creates programs that actually work. Now you want to help other safety professionals skip the painful trial-and-error.

You’re not just a subject matter expert – you’re a trained coach. You light up when students have breakthroughs or report back that they finally got leadership buy-in. You’re equally comfortable leading group calls with 20 people as you are coaching a struggling student one-on-one.

You value flexibility and autonomy. This contracted position gives you freedom to set your own schedule and work from anywhere, as long as you maintain consistent availability for students. You’re comfortable starting at 10-15 hours/week, knowing it could grow to 25 hours as we scale. You might have other coaching clients – that’s encouraged.

Most importantly, you see the growth potential. In six months, you could be managing a team of specialized coaches and transitioning into a full-time W2 leadership role. You might also develop your own one-on-one coaching practice through the academy, earning additional revenue on top of your retainer. You’re the person students will remember years later when they credit their career transformation.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • 10+ years of hands-on safety management experience in high-hazard industries
    • Active safety certification (CSP, CHST, or equivalent professional certification)
    • Experience in construction, general industry, and/or DOT safety management
    • Formal coaching training or certification (life coaching, executive coaching, or similar – not just safety mentoring experience)
    • Proven ability to coach and guide professionals through transformational learning experiences
    • Excellent verbal communication skills for leading group calls and one-on-one coaching conversations
    • Strong written communication skills for forum responses and email support
    • Experience building relationships and fostering community among professionals
    • Comfortable with technology and able to quickly learn platforms (Zoom, Kajabi, community tools)
    • Self-directed work style with the ability to manage one’s own schedule and maintain consistent availability
    • Ability to speak clear, fluent English
    • Availability in the Eastern Time Zone; meetings held in the early mornings and late afternoons
    • Access to reliable high-speed internet for video calls and platform access
    • Location: Preferably U.S.-based (90% of students are in the U.S.), though international candidates will be considered

    Requirements

    Highly Preferred:
    • Experience across multiple industries (construction, general industry, DOT, manufacturing, oil & gas, etc.)
    • Background in industrial hygiene, risk management, or related safety specialties
    • Experience creating or managing safety leadership development programs
    • Track record of mentoring or coaching safety professionals to career advancement
    • Previous community management or student success experience
    • Familiarity with online learning platforms and virtual coaching delivery
    Philosophy Alignment (Critical):
You must embody and teach the core philosophies of Safety Leadership Academy. This means you fundamentally believe that:
    • Exceptional safety management goes far beyond checking compliance boxes – it delivers measurable business value to organizations
    • Safety leaders need business acumen to demonstrate how safety impacts the bottom line beyond just incident rates and insurance premiums
    • The most effective safety leaders influence their leadership teams rather than trying to manage employee safety behaviors directly
    • By stepping back from micromanaging decisions and instead collaborating with operations managers and employees, safety leaders create programs that exceed regulatory requirements without resistance
    • The only way to create truly effective safety management programs that organically build management support and employee engagement is through a Safety Management Influencer System

If you still see safety as primarily about enforcement, compliance, and “making sure employees follow the rules,” this role is not the right fit. We’re looking for someone who has lived and breathed this influencer-based approach and can authentically guide students through this transformation.

    Essential Traits:

    • Student-centered mindset – you genuinely care about each person’s success and growth
    • Ownership mentality – you take initiative, follow through, and treat students like they’re your responsibility
    • Authentic and approachable – students feel comfortable asking “dumb questions” and being vulnerable about their challenges
    • Patient and encouraging – you meet students where they are and celebrate incremental progress
    • Results-driven – you’re motivated by student transformations, testimonials, and success stories
    • Collaborative team player – you communicate proactively with the Executive Ops Coordinator and CEO
    • Problem-solver who figures things out rather than waiting to be told what to do
    • Flexible and adaptable – student needs vary, and you adjust your approach accordingly
    • Highly organized – you track multiple students’ progress without letting anyone fall through the cracks
    • Dependable – students count on you to show up consistently for scheduled calls and respond to questions promptly

    What Does Success Look Like?

Success means students show up to your calls consistently and engage authentically. They’re asking vulnerable questions, sharing real workplace challenges, and supporting each other’s growth. The community is alive with discussions and celebrations, and students know exactly when and where to find you.

Students progress through their 90-day accelerator plans and hit milestones. You catch anyone falling behind and reach out proactively. Renewal conversations are easy because students have experienced real transformation – your renewal rate is high and students are referring their colleagues.

You’re collecting powerful testimonials and case studies that showcase business impact – “I got VP buy-in” or “I reduced incidents by 40%.” Students leave reviews, record video testimonials, and join the affiliate program because they want others to experience the same transformation.

The CEO trusts that students are taken care of. No unanswered questions, no one feeling abandoned. You proactively communicate feedback, identify improvements, and flag issues early. Your coordination with the Executive Ops Coordinator is seamless – events posted, replays up on time, nothing falls through the cracks.

You’re building systems, not just running calls. You’ve documented processes, created tracking templates, and established best practices that scale. When it’s time to bring in specialized coaches, you’re ready to manage them because you’ve already built the foundation.

    Our Company Culture

We’re building a culture where structure creates freedom. Every system, process, and SOP exists to empower people to own their work without constant oversight. We’re data-driven with heart – numbers guide our decisions, but people always come first. Mistakes aren’t emergencies; they’re feedback for improvement. We practice radical candor, speaking up in the moment and trusting each other to handle honest feedback. Autonomy is non-negotiable – you’ll manage your own schedule, develop your own OKRs, and be trusted to figure things out or ask for help when needed. We don’t accept “I don’t know” as a final answer, but “I don’t know yet, let me figure it out” is our standard. Efficiency is sacred here – we automate relentlessly, eliminate repetitive work, and protect everyone’s time like it’s gold. Beyond the systems and metrics, we’re mission-driven: we’re elevating an entire profession and changing how workplace safety is perceived.

How This Role Embodies Our Culture: As our Community Manager, you embody our “structure creates freedom” value by establishing dependable rhythms that students count on while having complete autonomy over when and how you schedule those touchpoints. You model our data-driven approach by tracking student progress and engagement metrics, but you lead with heart – genuinely caring about each person’s transformation and celebrating their wins. You create a safe space where mistakes aren’t emergencies; students feel comfortable being vulnerable about their challenges because you’ve normalized learning through feedback. You practice radical candor in your coaching – giving honest, direct feedback in the moment that helps students grow faster. Your ability to manage your own schedule and develop your own systems demonstrates the autonomy and ownership we value. You proactively reach out to struggling students before anyone asks you to – that’s initiative in action. Your work isn’t just running calls and answering questions; you’re directly elevating an entire profession by multiplying your impact through every student you coach, creating ripple effects that transform how safety is practiced in organizations across the country.
