A personal fall arrest system is the harness-and-connector setup you already know from other height work. The worker wears a full-body harness and ties off to an anchorage or vertical lifeline rated for fall arrest. Like any last line of defense, it only protects the worker when it’s worn and inspected correctly.

On the hierarchy of controls, a ladder safety system leans closer to an engineering control, while a PFAS sits down at the PPE level. Neither one is automatically better. The right choice depends on the ladder, the structure you can anchor to, and how often the ladder gets climbed.
